Office of the Registrar Closing Early on Wednesday, November 27th

The Office of the Registrar will be closing at 2:30 on Wednesday, November 27th and will be closed on Thursday, November 28th and Friday, November 29th.  We will resume normal office hours starting Monday, December 2nd.

Clarification of Academic Advisors’ Approval of Cross Registration Requests – Sent 11/18/13

Colleagues –

Some of you have expressed concern about the fluctuating nature of enrollment and advisor approval of cross registration requests. I understand and appreciate your concerns. To clarify, we are asking for advisors to make the approval/denial decision based on the information that is available to them at the date that the request is made.

For example, if, on June 1, all of the remaining seats in a class are reserved for freshmen and the student isn’t a freshmen, then the cross registration should be approved. Likewise, if the student hasn’t been able to get into a limited enrollment course and it is impossible to know whether open seats would remain by the time that the Course Enrollment Control Policy is lifted (see my earlier email on that topic), then the advisor should approve the request. (The advisor would be taking the student’s word that s/he checked with the department to request force registration and that request was denied.)

We recognize that this means that an advisor may approve a request on one day, which then looks as if it shouldn’t have been approved because seats were opened at some later point. Unfortunately, that can’t be avoided given the ever-changing nature of enrollment. When you review a request, we ask that you make the best judgment that you can in support of the intention of the policy, which is to keep students engaged at UB and to have them enroll in UB courses prior to seeking cross registration elsewhere.

Course Enrollment Control Process Update – Sent 11/18/2013

Colleagues,

The Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs has asked me to announce that the registration process for impacted courses under the undergraduate Course Enrollment Control policy will be changing effective with spring 2014 registration. One week prior to the start of classes, the Course Enrollment Control policy will be lifted in HUB, allowing students who have previously attempted impacted courses to self-register in seats that remain open at that date. All other restrictions, including prerequisites, Reserve Capacities, and Repeat Policy restrictions that prohibit self-registration after two attempts, will continue to apply.

The process for repeat registration for impacted courses prior to this date is at the discretion of the cognizant decanal unit.

While this may not guarantee a seat if the course is otherwise full, it may be helpful to students seeking enrollment. Please share this broadly with students.

View Graduation Status – Sent 10/28/2013

Good Afternoon:

A new functionality has been released to students in their HUB Student Service Center to allow them to now view their graduation status. Please see below for the email that was provided to students (the population of students emailed are students who have currently applied for Fall 2013 conferral , which includes all undergraduate students and graduate students audited by the Office of the Registrar – Ed.D., Ed.M., PHRM, DPT, MBA, PMBA, EMBA, MSW, MLS).

The email specifically includes the link to the definitions of the Degree Checkout Status’s and a link to the Job Aid, in which they are given direction on how to view their graduation status (I have also attached a PDF of the job aid to this email).

Dear Student,

To improve the functionality of your HUB Student Center we have released a new functionality that will now allow you to view your graduation status.

As a part of Graduation processing, certain populations of students are required to apply for the conferral of their degree through the HUB Student Center.

Now, after you have completed your application, you will be able to go back into the same area in HUB and view your graduation status. The status will reflect where you currently stand in the conferral process.

As you travel through the conferral process your degree checkout status is subject to change. A chart of degree checkout statuses and their definitions can be found at the Office of the Registrar website:
